High Blood Pressure is a condition in which blood pressure in the arteries is higher than normal. It is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke and can lead to fatal complications if left untreated. In this video, Dr Sten Ekberg discusses the top 10 signs and symptoms of high blood pressure – severe headaches, dizziness, chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea, blurred vision, confusion, nosebleeds, fatigue, and irregular heartbeat.
He went on to explain Severe headaches as a sign of a hypertensive crisis, a dangerously high blood pressure reading that can cause life-threatening complications. The optimal blood pressure reading is a systolic pressure below 120 and a diastolic pressure below 80. If the systolic pressure is too high, it increases the intracranial pressure and can cause a headache that is not relieved by aspirin or other headache medications.
